The ability to unmistakably combine different shades into beautiful combinations is not possessed by many people, but only those who are naturally gifted with talent and a special sense of color. It should be noted, however, that not every artist or designer can confidently rank himself as such. Therefore, the question arises of how they manage to create their creations, because the colors in them are far from the last meaning.
Today we will lift the curtain and reveal for you the secret of a successful, harmonious interior in terms of color. The so-called secret lies in elementary observation, which we urge to awaken in ourselves each of our dear readers.
In search of the right color for the walls in the living room, which will be combined with the shades of curtains, furniture and accessories, it is necessary to turn to the wildlife that surrounds us from all sides. It is the flora and fauna, as well as their representatives, that should inspire you to transform the usual image of the room.
So, below we will provide you with some interesting examples of using color combinations, and describe each of the options a little.
Pastels and contrasting nuances
The shades of the underwater world and its inhabitants, for example, corals and clown fish, were chosen as the first sample. You should not be fooled by the delicate salmon pink of the coral and the bright tangerine shade of fish skin, as these tones can coexist wonderfully together.
How to apply
Let's say we choose a non-trivial coral color for the walls in the bedroom or living room - this is 50% of all the basic colors of the room. The orange (tangerine) color of the fish should be used by 20% in the form of light from lighting devices, a flame in a fireplace, a warm blanket on an armchair, paints on paintings. White and black colors, which are present in small quantities in the color of clown fish, use in an amount equal to 8-10%, for example, in the form of edging curtains, carpet or bedspread, frames for photos and paintings, accessories.
Choosing a successful combination, based on the shades of a flower, the color of an animal or the tone of the sunset sky, is only halfway, but in order for the coloristic solution of the interior to become consistent and balanced, you need to apply the ratio of colors that is present in each individual case.
Rich color + light ambiance
If you want to apply dark saturated colors to your interior, think of the night sky and the glitter of the snow drifts underneath. Cobalt blue or ink blue always looks great when surrounded by crystal white. Such a tandem should be supplemented only with warm shimmering elements that will create a fabulous mood in the room.
Blue is an aristocratic color, truly royal - there must be a lot of it, since we are associating with an evening winter landscape.
How to apply
You can use blue in the upholstery of upholstered furniture, in the decoration of walls and curtain textiles (45-50%). It is necessary to balance the saturated color with a large amount of a snow-white shade (30-35%) for the ceiling, textiles, large accessories. This will help reduce the influence of the dark tone, and make the room brighter and lighter.
Finally, add some accessories in warm shades (10-15%): golden, shimmery yellow, warm orange. The positive-negative effect, that is, the contrast between warm and cold colors, is always relevant.
Soft solid color gradient
For those who see their home cozy, not flashy, but nevertheless beautiful, we recommend paying attention to the natural earthy shades with which nature has painted trees, stones, ponds, and your pets.
How to apply
Take a look at your cat, memorize the shades of his fur, the color of his eyes and nose, and after that, start decorating the interior.Depending on the main color of the animal's color, you can create a romantic light image of the room (for example, based on white, cream), or a respectable, classic (when the coat is pronounced brown, black or dark gray) is about 55-60%.
The shade of the pet's eyes will help with choosing the right color for the rug, lamps, dishes or decorative pillows (10-15%).
A combination of vibrant, active colors
The bright colors used in the interior will testify to the light, kind disposition of the owners, moreover, they will help to cope with the autumn-winter gloom. The plumage of exotic birds will undoubtedly serve as an excuse for using cheerful combinations in a living room.
How to apply
As an illustrative example, you can take as a basis the color of the feathers of ordinary budgerigars, familiar to each of you. Light green, azure, piercing yellow - these are the main tones in which these birds are painted. But because in large quantities such catchy shades will look too assertive, it is better to use them to arrange any of the areas of the room.
For example, a bed in the bedroom, a dining area in the kitchen, a seating area in the living room. Against the background of neutral, calm shades of the room, the functional area, highlighted by a combination of bright colors, will look fresh, original and stylish.
Children of flora, or simply flowers, give us not only beauty and a magical aroma, but contribute to the development of taste and help to decorate an elegant interior without much effort. Consider the option of using the classic combination of pink and gray, using the example of peony or fuchsia flowers, whose petals play in several shades, from the most delicate to bright, saturated.
How to apply
The sample interior is based on light gray shades, which can be made in the background, by about 40-45%. As you know, any shade of pink will be advantageously combined with gray, for example, the color of strawberry marshmallow (pale pink) - use it to draw curtains or upholstery of one of the living room armchairs (in the kitchen it can be a tablecloth) 20%. The outer petals of fuchsia are painted in a brighter color (pink-crimson) - it will be good in the form of pillow covers, ceramics, colored glass (8-10%).
The darkest (lilac-pink) tone of the flower stamens will serve to select the appropriate decorative addition, creating an extraordinary play of color and volume in the patterns of fabric, accessories, modern wall panels (3-5%).
Shades of green are insidious, as, in large quantities and if used incorrectly, they will erase all the positive impression of the interior. Therefore, greens must be combined with other shades, both warm and cold, but always, with knowledge of all its features.
How to apply
In order to make the task of choosing a suitable green color somewhat easier for you, we recommend that you remember the minerals (malachite and emerald), undoubtedly precious shades. And also, turn to more familiar and affordable carriers of color - green vegetables: cucumbers, garden herbs, broccoli, asparagus.
Mineral green is a color with a cool undertones, vegetable color is warm. But they all get along well with terracotta, yellow, scarlet, woody and chocolate.
We recommend using warm shades of greenery in the design of the kitchen, and as an example, take the colors of young garden cucumbers.
If you look closely, you can see that closer to the edges the vegetable is salad-colored, and towards the center the shade thickens (herbal), in addition, after harvesting, yellow flowers remain. So: in the interior of the kitchen, install an apron or cover the floor with tiles of a natural grassy color (60% use of color), choose salad for dishes, textiles (10%), yellow or gold for lighting fixtures and small accessories (3-5%).
Let's add unexpected accents
What to do if an ordinary, unremarkable room is bored, and there is no desire to introduce saturated colors. Basic shades are good because they are ready for any experiments, for example, as the use of non-standard color combinations. Both nature and ordinary things that we surround ourselves with every day can inspire, even a favorite delicacy can cause a clear transformation.
How to apply
Chocolate-berry soufflé, colored macaroon cakes or lollipops so simply but effectively help with the task of coloring a monochrome interior. Nevertheless, one should be careful and observe the measure so that the house in which adults live does not turn into infantile and sugary.
In the bedroom, it is best to use candy tones such as mint, caramel, strawberry and cream for bedding and decor.
In the living room, you can add a couple of mouth-watering peach, cream or blueberry cushions to complement the solid color set, while in the kitchen it would be nice to combine several colors at once, following the example of the famous macaroon cakes.
