Everyone probably wanted to keep their favorite flower in its original form. And each had a series of unsuccessful attempts. Water does not flow under the lying stone, so let's start experimenting to make our dreams come true?

Unsuccessful experiments with table salt, in order to warn! I pre-calcined the salt in a frying pan and put the plants in a still warm desiccant. Yes, the color and shape are perfectly preserved, but the moisture emanating from the plant cements the salt. It becomes impossible to extract and clean the plant without damaging it. The only way is to soak the salt ball or throw it away.

Even after the washed sheet has dried safely in the air, it was not possible to completely free it from the salt crystals that protruded along the edges. What can we say about the most delicate petals. Of the plants I tested, only Nephrolepis was cleared of salt. In the photo, dried in table salt and a living fragment of a Nephrolepis leaf:

In the next experiment, we used semolina… A damp lump also formed around each plant, but not as strong as the salt one, we managed to get rid of it without loss. The shape was preserved, but the Hungarian lilac, for example, lost its color. It was not possible to clean the already dry plants to the end, in some places the cereal stuck tightly.

Ordinary quartz sand as a dehumidifier disappointed in childhood, however, maybe she just did not try very hard: she did not wash it properly and did not ignite it.

I decided to try volcanic sand, that is, porous, for bathing chinchillas and other rodents. The pet store offered 4 packages from different manufacturers. We need the sand to be porous, therefore, it should be light.

We weigh the packages in our hands (they have approximately the same volume, but the weight is very different) and choose the lightest one. The chosen package turned out to be not the most expensive, but not the cheapest, 330 rubles / kg. Taking into account multiple uses, the price is reasonable. Upon autopsy, it turned out that this sand looks and feels not much different from semolina. In the photo, cereal and sand in two identical jars:

At first, I was skeptical about drying in the microwave, local overheating and all that … but the chinchilla sand was enough for only a few jars, I really wanted to see the result as soon as possible and lay freshly harvested plants. I decided to put one jar in the microwave for a minute at medium mode. The container with sand is quite hot. Upon cooling, the sand fell off very easily without damaging the sheet.

Result exceeded all expectations: perfect shape and color, stuck grains of sand can be easily removed with a brush.

Streptocarpus are the most delicate: how to understand from the photo that in front of you is a dry Streptocarpus flower? Very simply, fresh flowers do not shine so much. During drying, the skin of the flower stretches and the surface becomes glossy.

The flowers of the uzambara violet are not yet obtained, they turn brown.

Plants in the microwave can easily dry out, making them very fragile. Do not immediately try to clean a dry plant from adhering grains of sand, let it lie in the air for about an hour. Dry tissues are saturated with moisture from the air, come into equilibrium with the environment, then only the dried flowers can be cleaned with a soft dry brush. Particularly stubborn grains of sand are removed with a toothpick.
